Our approach
We believe everyone deserves to understand their retirement — regardless of age, ability, or technical confidence. Isaac is built with accessibility in mind from the start, not bolted on as an afterthought. We continuously work to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard.
Built-in accessibility features
One toggle in your Account settings scales up all text, spacing, and touch targets across the entire app. No fiddly per-screen settings — everything gets bigger and easier to read at once. Designed for users who find standard mobile text too small, whether due to vision changes, reading preferences, or simply wanting a more comfortable experience.
A full dark theme that reduces eye strain in low-light environments and improves readability for users sensitive to bright screens. Toggle it on from the Account tab — it applies instantly across every screen, chart, and modal in the app. Also helps conserve battery on OLED devices.
Financial planning is complicated enough without the industry making it harder. Isaac explains everything in straightforward language. Where we must use a technical term (like “drawdown” or “annuity”), we explain what it means. Our Knowledge Hub provides additional educational content in accessible, bite-sized formats.
Design principles
Clear visual hierarchy
We use consistent heading sizes, generous spacing, and high-contrast text to make every screen easy to scan and understand. Important numbers and projections are always prominent.
Colour and contrast
Isaac’s colour palette is designed to maintain strong contrast ratios in both light and dark modes. We avoid relying on colour alone to convey information — charts include labels, and interactive elements have clear visual indicators beyond colour.
Touch targets
Buttons, toggles, and interactive elements meet minimum touch target size guidelines (44×44 points) to make the app usable for people with motor difficulties. Stop Squinting mode increases these targets further.
Screen reader compatibility
Isaac is built with React Native, which provides native accessibility support on iOS (VoiceOver) and Android (TalkBack). Interactive elements include accessibility labels and roles to support screen reader navigation.
Reduced motion
Animations in Isaac are subtle and purposeful. The app respects your device’s reduced motion preferences where possible.
Offline access
Isaac works offline, so users in areas with limited connectivity — or those who prefer not to rely on a constant internet connection — can still access their retirement projections and data.
How to enable accessibility features
- Stop Squinting Mode: Open the app → Account tab → toggle “Stop Squinting” on
- Dark Mode: Open the app → Account tab → toggle “Dark Mode” on
- System text size: Isaac respects your device’s system font size settings on both iOS and Android
- Screen readers: Enable VoiceOver (iOS) or TalkBack (Android) in your device settings — Isaac supports standard screen reader navigation
Our ongoing commitment
Accessibility is not a one-off project. We test with real users, review feedback regularly, and continuously improve. If you encounter any accessibility barriers in Isaac, we genuinely want to hear about it.
